Bacteriostatic Water
Limited evidence — Early or sparse dataWhat it is
Water with a small amount of preservative (typically benzyl alcohol) allowing multi-draw use in reconstitution. A consumable, not an active compound.
Bacteriostatic water contains ~0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative, which is what allows a reconstituted vial to be drawn from repeatedly over several weeks. It is the usual choice for multi-dose reconstitution.
Research context
Studied in relation to:
- Multi-use reconstitution diluent
Points in its favour in the literature:
- Preservative allows multiple draws
Caveats and unknowns:
- Not for certain uses (e.g. neonates)
- Solvent only, not therapeutic
Handling & reference data

Storage (lyophilised)Store at room temperature per label.
Reconstituted solutionReconstituted peptide: refrigerate and use within ~4 weeks.
Worked reconstitution example (arithmetic only)Inject slowly onto the vial wall; swirl gently. The preservative allows multiple draws over ~4 weeks refrigerated.
